Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department is hosting the Sixth Annual Law Enforcement and Private Security (LEAPS) conference. This conference is a networking and training opportunity that continues to bring law enforcement and private industry security personnel together. The theme of the conference is Risk Management Leadership Challenge for Police and Private Security. The seminar will focus on creating public and private sector understanding of their common goals to protect lives and property.
Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS), within the State Department of Consumer Affairs, will present a course that is now be mandatory training for all newly licensed security officers in California.
The course was initiated by BSIS over one year ago. BSIS used POST (Police Officer Standard Training) as the primary contractor in development of the training. Additionally, the Department of Homeland Security, the California Military Department, UC Irvine, and subject matter experts representing the private security industry, law enforcement, terrorism specialists and the chemical industry helped to develop a training program that is now the pattern by which other states will now develop their own training.
