University Coin Burglary

Friday, July 2, 1999
Unidentified suspect(s) gained entry to a third floor apartment in the 8100 Block of Redlands Street in Westchester Area and removed a collection of rare Roman and Byzantine coins. The location of the burglary is an off campus office and classroom used by Loyola Marymount University staff. The burglary occurred between June 25, 1999, 2:00 p.m. and June 27, 1999, 3:30 p.m. A second burglary occurred at the location between July 19, 1999 4:00 p.m. and July 21, 1999, 7:00 p.m.

Hundreds of coins were taken in the first burglary. The photos and descriptions of coins included in this alert represent only a portion of the coins taken.

In the second burglary, many antiques were taken from the location including bronze and wooden figures and statues, along with specialized camera equipment.

Collectors and dealers of rare coins are requested to remain alert for any information concerning persons who may attempt to sell from this collection.
