Unprovoked Shooting Leaves One Dead in Southwest Division

Los Angeles: On Friday, May 23, 2003, at approximately 11:40 a.m., Stefan M. Grimes, a 20 year old resident of Los Angeles, was walking to his home in the 1800 block of West 22nd Street. The investigation revealed that the suspects described as 2 male Blacks, 19-25 years of age, drove up in a vehicle, stopped, and confronted Grimes. Then, for no apparent reason, Grimes was shot by the suspects. The suspects got back into their vehicle and left the location. Grimes did nothing to cause the suspects to stop or provoke the confrontation that resulted in the shooting.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the location, examined Grimes, and pronounced him dead at the scene.

No motive for the shooting has been established and the suspects and weapon are still outstanding.
