When the officers arrived, they located the suspect in the street in front of the location. The officers gave the suspect commands to submit to arrest; however, he refused to comply. Officers approached the suspect and attempted to take him into custody, and the suspect resisted. Officers utilized physical force and taser to take the suspect into custody.
The suspect was transported by rescue ambulance to the hospital due to the taser deployment. While at the hospital, medical staff determined that the suspect was suffering from rhabdomyolysis and needed to be admitted to the hospital. Although the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine, the attending physician could not rule out that the rhabdomyolysis was a result of the use of force.
No officers were injured during the incident.
Force Investigation Division has assumed investigative responsibility of this incident.
