Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division detectives are investigating the circumstances of a traffic collision resulting in a fatality.
On December 17, 2023, around 2:05 a.m., officers responded to a radio call of a traffic collision at Western Avenue and Vernon Avenue. The suspect’s vehicle, traveling north on Western Avenue collided with a pedestrian, who was lying on the street.
After striking the victim, the suspect’s vehicle continued northbound on Western Avenue. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and succumbed to his injuries. The driver faces Vehicular Manslaughter charges.
Motorists are reminded to drive at a safe speed for the conditions, speeding and reckless driving carries serious consequences. If you become involved in a collision, you should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify self.
The public is also reminded that as pedestrians, they should obey the rules of the road and walk on designated walking areas, such as sidewalks and crosswalks.
