Woman Dies in Traffic Collision NR10612cj

Los Angeles:  Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) West Traffic detectives are seeking assistance from the community in providing information about a traffic collision that led to the death of a 64-year-old Los Angeles resident.

On Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at around 1:40 p.m., LAPD West Traffic officers received a call of a traffic collision in the area of Westmoreland Boulevard and 7th Street.  When the officers arrived, they saw what appeared to be a traffic collision.  The officers also found two unresponsive women inside of a car.

Los Angeles Fire Department rescue personnel responded and transported both women to a local hospital where the driver of the car was pronounced dead.The woman was later identified as a 64-year-old Los Angeles resident.The passenger sustained severe injuries and is currently in stable condition.
 
Department investigators believe that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Westmoreland Boulevard, when it ran off the road and collided with a steel gate and concrete pillar.The driver’s name has not been released pending notification to her family.

The investigation also revealed that the car had been involved in a hit and run traffic collision on 8th Street and Westmoreland Boulevard prior to the above incident.During this collision,the woman was traveling eastbound on 8th Street, making a left turn onto Westmoreland Boulevard. As the woman made the turn, she collided with another car traveling westbound on 8th Street.The woman then drove away from the scene northbound on Westmoreland Boulevard.There were no injuries during that collision.The detectives have determined that the primary factor in the collisions was unsafe speed for roadway conditions.
