Los Angeles: Rampart Area Robbery Detectives are asking the public’s help in identifying a suspect who dragged a young Korean woman by her hair during a robbery of a local alarm-monitoring company. The suspect’s image and his brutal actions were caught on surveillance cameras in the office.
A 21-year-old woman of Los Angeles was working at the Ace Alarm Company, located at 1914 W. 8th Street, when a man came to the door inquiring about alarms. She buzzed the man through the security door at 5:10 AM on April 7, 2005, but the inquiry was a ruse. The man, described as an African-American in his 20’s, immediately demanded money, but the alarm company did not keep money in the premises. The suspect can be seen on surveillance camera dragging the victim through the office, choking her, trying to get her to give up money.
The suspect eventually abandoned the office building and took a purse, cell phone, and money from the victim’s car in the parking lot. “This is one of the most brazen robberies I’ve ever seen. We really want to find this guy,” said Rampart Detective Gilbert Alonso. “And we can do it with the public and the media’s help.” Detectives had hoped to catch the suspect quickly through early leads, but the leads did not pan out.
The suspect is about 6 feet tall and weighs over 200 pounds. He was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, and a baseball cap. The victim was bruised from being hit, and she suffered a cut lip.
Surveillance video clips and still photographs are available to media outlets through Media Relations, upon request. The compact disks will be available at 2:30 PM.
