Gang Drive-by Kills One and Injures Three in the North Hollywood Area

Monday, January 4, 1999
On January 3, 1999, at approximately 4:35 p.m., North Hollywood patrol officers responded to an "ADW Shots Fired" call in the 7600 block of Vineland Avenue in Sun Valley.

Upon arrival officers discovered four victims down at the location, all suffering from single gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to various hospitals for medical treatment.

Victim #1 – 23 year old Efran Gonzales from Sun Valley died from his injuries at Pacifica Hospital at 5:50 p.m.
Victim #2 – 58 year old, male, Hispanic from Panorama City, is in critical condition.
Victim #3 – 23 year old, male, Hispanic from Sun Valley, was treated for a gunshot wound to his right leg.
Victim #4 – 18 year old, male, Hispanic from Sun Valley, was treated and released for a graze wound to his back

Subsequent investigation revealed that the victims had been shot in an apparent gang drive-by. There is no further information at this time.
