Head-Shaving Event to Raise Funds for Childhood Cancer Research What: The Los Angeles Fire and Police Department will host a St. Baldrick’s Foundation signature head-shaving event at Fire Station 89 in North Hollywood, Calif., to raise funds and awareness for lifesaving childhood cancer research on Saturday, March 16. With a goal of raising $100,000, more than 200 participants will have their heads shaved to support the Foundation’s mission to Conquer Childhood Cancers! This is the 10th year the LAPD and LAFD are hosting this event. This year’s event will feature free breakfast from IHOP and coffee from Starbucks, entertainment including magicians, face painters and caricature artists, a silent auction, a raffle, gourmet food trucks, and more. Among St. Baldrick’s Honored Kids attending will be St. Baldrick’s Foundation 2013 Ambassador, Emily Magilnick. At age 15, Emily began to feel pain in her shin. She initially thought the discomfort was due to growing pains or a tennis injury. However, on Dec. 12, 2011, she was diagnosed with chondroblastic osteosarcoma, a cancerous bone tumor. Emily has bravely endured a year of medical treatment, including chemotherapy and surgery to remove seven inches of her right tibia. Her prognosis is positive and she looks forward to being an example to newly diagnosed teens. Her brother Max will be shaving his head at the event in honor of his big sister, Emily! Celebrities in attendance include: Jason Winston George of “Grey’s Anatomy,” Mark Rhino Smith who has played various supporting roles in box office hits and Angeline-Rose Troy of Lifetime’s original film “Imaginary Friend.” For more information, check out the Fire Station 89 St. Baldrick’s event page.
