email Captain Ray Valois was born
in Monterey Park, California and grew up in the Inland Empire.
Prior to coming to the Los Angeles Police Department, he owned and
operated a successful construction business; building commercial
buildings and custom homes. Simultaneously, he served his local
community as a Reserve Police Officer for Montclair Police
Department. In 1990 he decided to follow his heart and joined the
Los Angeles Police Department.

Captain Valois graduated from the Los Angeles Police Department
Academy and was first assigned to Northeast Area patrol. The same
Division where he is now assigned as the Patrol Commanding Officer.
After completing probation at Northeast Area, he was assigned to
North Hollywood Area, only to return to Northeast a few years later
as a Field Training Officer.

In 1996, Captain Valois was promoted to Sergeant. As a Sergeant,
he worked the following assignments; Southeast Area, Jail
Division, Hollywood Area, North Hollywood Area, Internal Affairs
Group, Office of Operations, Special Operations Bureau, and
Counter Terrorism and Special Operation Bureau.

In 2012, Captain Valois was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned
as a Watch Commander in Hollywood Area. In 2014, he transferred
to Communications Division and after a short time was given the
responsibility of being the Assistant Commanding Officer of
Communication Division, overseeing over 650 personnel at three
separate facilities. Captain Valois was promoted to his current
rank in December of 2019 and is currently assigned as the
Northeast Patrol Commanding Officer.

Captain Valois earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Administration with a focus on Human Resource Management. He is a
graduate of the Los Angeles Police Command Officer Development
program and the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards
and Training (POST) Management Course, along with completing the
Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute program. Captain
Valois has been awarded the Police Commission Unit Citation
medal, Civil Unrest ribbon, and Democratic National Convention
