Serial Commercial Burglary Suspect Arrested NR17288ml

October 5, 2017

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles
Police Department’s Van Nuys Patrol and Burglary detectives
arrested Vincent Joseph Campbell for a series of commercial
burglaries in the Van Nuys and North Hollywood Areas.

Beginning in September 2017, Van Nuys Area noticed an upward spike
in commercial burglaries taking place in the early morning hours.
The suspect, later identified as Vincent Campbell, was seen on
numerous surveillance videos smashing the front window or prying
the rear door to businesses located in various strip malls.

Campbell would cut power to the strip mall, attack surveillance
cameras by removing them or smashed them on the ground, pulled
alarm pads from the walls then ransacked the businesses causing
extensive damage. Campbell took cash registers, computers, cash,
jewelry and tools.

Detectives issued Crime Alerts and attended roll call providing
information and photographs to patrol officers.

On Saturday September 30, 2017 around 5:00 a.m., Van Nuys Patrol
units responded to an alarm call at the 13300 block of Victory
Boulevard. The owner provided information to the responding
officers that he could see a suspect inside his business attempting
to take his cash register.

Upon arrival, officers recognized the suspect (Campbell) from the
Crime Alerts.

Campbell refused commands to exit the business, and a perimeter was
established. By this time, Campbell had punched through the drywall
of the business next door and secreted himself in the crawlspace
between the ceiling and roof with a stolen handgun.

Metropolitan K-9 units responded and ultimately took Campbell into
custody without incident.

Detectives recovered evidence from a vehicle connecting Campbell to
Van Nuys burglaries. A search warrant later that day resulted in
the recovery of additional evidence connecting Campbell to numerous
burglaries.

Campbell has prior arrests for Burglary, Grand Theft Auto, Weapons
and Narcotics. Although Campbell’s spree was committed in only a
two-week time span, Campbell has been linked to over twenty
commercial burglaries in that time.

The dollar amount of damage caused by Campbell is extensive.
Detectives filed twenty-two counts of commercial burglary and one
count, ex-con with a gun.

Detectives have provided Vincent Campbell’s of photo in case there
may be additional victims of other unreported incidents and are
asking for the public’s assistance in locating them.
