Proposed Guidelines for Use of sUAS Released for Public Review NR17294dm

October 6, 2017

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles
Police Department has posted its proposed guidelines for the use of
a small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS) for public viewing and
comment.

The Department welcomes and encourages Angelenos to review the
document and share their thoughts about the potential use of the
small aerial video platform. These proposed guidelines provide
strict parameters for the use of so-called “drones” in only a
handful of situations and with the expressed approval from top
officials within the Department. The LAPD is committed to ensuring
public trust, maintaining transparency, and most importantly
keeping our communities safe through fair constitutional policing.
We understand these goals can only be achieved through partnerships
and input from our residents when we explore new ways to make Los
Angeles the safest big city in the country.
