Non-Tactical Unintentional Discharge (NTUD) NRF022-21fp

On April 10, 2021, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) officers completed an arrest of a “Barricaded man with a gun” resulting from a call out in Pacific Area. After the arrest, a SWAT officer moved the Bear Cat from the call out location to the proximity of the Command Post. Prior to the SWAT officer exiting the Bear Cat, he slung his rifle, placing it in front of him. As the SWAT officer exited the Bear Cat and stepped on the curb, the rifle discharged one round into the ground.

The SWAT officer immediately notified his supervisor of the discharge and provided a Public Safety Statement. The area of the Non-Tactical Unintentional Discharge was secured.

Force Investigation Division was notified and assumed investigative responsibility of the incident.

No officers were injured during this incident.
