Victim Killed During Family Gathering

Los Angeles: Rampart Homicide Detectives are investing the shooting death of 28 year-old Juan Mossivais and the attempt murder of 27 year-old Manuel De Larosa. The shooting occurred in front of 2523 Bellevue Avenue.
On September 6, 2003, at about 10:25p.m., Rampart Patrol Officers responded to an ambulance shooting investigation at the 2500 block of Bellevue Avenue. Upon their arrival, the officers observed two victims lying on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds. The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported both victims to USC Medical Center for treatment. Mr. Mossivais was treated and died from his injuries. Mr. DeLarosa was treated and is listed in critical but stable condition.
The investigation revealed that the victims were at a family gathering at the above location. The victims were standing in front of the location when a 1980’s blue, Toyota mini-van, traveling westbound Bellevue Avenue, drove slowly past them. The witnesses observed two male suspects in the vehicle. One of the suspects yelled at the victims. The suspects immediately fired numerous bullets at the victims. The suspects fled the location north bound on the 101 freeway from Bellevue Avenue.
The suspects are described as two male Hispanics, no further description. The motive for the shooting is gang related.
