" Suspect Arrested for Killing Victim with Vehicle"

Los Angeles: Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating the death of a male Hispanic, approximately 40 years of age.
On October 8, 2001 at 9:50 a.m., Central Division patrol officers were driving eastbound on 6th Street approaching Bonnie Brae Street, when a pickup truck exited the alley into oncoming traffic causing the police vehicle to abruptly stop to avoid a traffic accident.
Officers activated their emergency lights and initiated a vehicle stop. As the officers approached the vehicle, witnesses approached them and advised that the suspect’s vehicle had just struck a pedestrian in the alley.
After detaining the driver and the passenger of the pickup truck, the officers conducted a follow-up investigation to the alley where they observed the victim down on the ground and bleeding. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported the victim to USC Medical Center for his injuries. The victim was admitted into surgery where he died from his wounds.
The investigation revealed that the driver of the pickup was involved in a earlier dispute with the victim. As the driver drove his pickup truck in the alley, he observed the victim standing in the alley, and intentionally struck him with his vehicle causing his fatal injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck was arrested for murder, and was transported to Jail Division. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Detective F. Faustino provided this information.
