LAPD Detective Jackeline Orellana-Diaz Going Above & Beyond to Serve the Los Angeles Community NR14153sm

April 17, 2014

Los Angeles: One neighborhood at a time, the Los Angeles Police Department continues to make a difference throughout the city of Los Angeles.  Detective Jackeline Orellana-Diaz is doing a lot more than protecting the streets and residents of our city.  She is an involved leader and impacts the community she serves in more ways than one. She leads by example and preaches by actions, not words.

Detective Orellana-Diaz has worked many assignments throughout her 11-year career, her latest is her promotion from Police Officer III to Detective, assigned to Northeast Division, Sexual Assault Table. Detective Orellana-Diaz has tremendous respect for her career and for all the people in the community that she serves.  Her journey with the LAPD began as a recruit in September of 2002, since then, she has worked 77th Street Division, Hollywood Division and Gang and Narcotics Division.

Detective Orellana-Diaz arrived from her native country of El Salvador to Los Angeles at the age of seven and grew up in Rampart Division with her mother, a single parent of nine children.  She has experienced firsthand the struggles and hardship that some families encounter.  As a way to give back to the city that has given her so much, Detective Orellana-Diaz began organizing events on Thanksgiving and Christmas helping over 2,000 needy families.

Detective Orellana-Diaz began her volunteer work seven years ago at McArthur Park, an area with a predominantly Hispanic community, unfortunately living below the property level.  Her work started with two helpers, and has now grown to 20-25 volunteers.  She accepts any donations from new to used clothing, toys, and household items.  Her goal in the near future is to establish a non-profit organization-503(c)(3) to be able to do more, and provide more for those families in desperate need.

When asked what made her want to help, she stated, “I felt the need to give back to my community and be proactive.  Serving the people in my community makes it possible for me to live the values of civic engagement and service to others, the two values I regard the most.”

On April 9, 2014, Detective Orellana-Diaz was recognized for her hard work and received the City Council Resolution by Council Member, Gil Cedillo.  On the same day, Chief Charlie Beck presented a certificate of recognition for her noble commitment to the community.

Detective Orellana-Diaz is a vivid image of what we stand for as an organization, and continues to demonstrate the difference our officers make throughout the city we so proudly serve.  We congratulate Detective Orellana-Diaz for all her good deeds and accomplishments.
