Los Angeles: On August 9, 1998, Police Officer II Filberto Cuesta and his partner were seated in their police vehicle outside of a large gang party awaiting backup units to arrive. They were ambushed from behind their police vehicle and Fil was mortally wounded. Officer Cuesta was the thirteenth officer assigned to Southwest Division to lose his life in the line of duty since 1934.
Los Angeles Police Department, Southwest Community and the American Red Cross would like to invite the public to participate in the 4th Annual Fil Cuesta Memorial Blood Drive on August 8, 2003. Blood donations will be accepted from 7am until 7pm at the Southwest Community Police Station, 1546 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (between Normandie Avenue and Western Avenue), Los Angeles.
Anyone wishing to participate should telephone Southwest Community Police Station at 213-485-2582 to sign up. Monetary donations will also be accepted. All donations will go to the American Red Cross in memory of Officer Cuesta.
