Victim Dies from Gang Related Shooting

Victim: Simon Ernesto Rivera, male, Hispanic, 19 years old.

Suspect #1- male, Hispanic, light complexion, 16/17 years, and Stocky build
Suspect #2- male, Hispanic, No Further Description

Vehicle: Older model, possible Toyota,4-door, gray

On Tuesday evening, July 6, 1999 at approximately 5:20 p.m., the victim was walking eastbound on the north sidewalk, in the 1000 Block of West 38th Street. The victim was approaching Wisconsin Street when the suspects appeared driving northbound on Wisconsin Street. The driver fired multiple shots from the driver’s window and struck the victim in the upper torso. The suspects fled the scene driving northbound on Wisconsin from 38th Street. Paramedics were called to the scene and transported the victim to a local Emergency Hospital. He was placed on Life Support Systems and is not expected to live.

The victim succumbed to injuries on July 7, 1999 at 4:40 a.m.

The motive for the shooting appears to be gang related. The weapon used was a possible blue steel handgun. The suspects and murder weapon are outstanding.
