Detectives Seeking Clues In Shooting Death

Los Angeles: On Wednesday, October 2, 2003, at about 2:20 a.m., Van Nuys Area Patrol Officers responded to a report of shots being fired in the 13700 block of Vanowen Street. When the officers arrived they were unable to locate any victims. As the officers were conducting their investigation, they received information from another patrol unit that a 27 year-old, male Hispanic, was at a local hospital receiving treatment for a gunshot wound to the upper torso. The victim did not respond to treatment and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Officers were able to confirm that the deceased victim was related to the shots fired call on Vanowen Street. The motive for the shooting is unknown and no suspect or weapon information is available at this time.
The victim’s identification is being withheld pending notification to the family.
