Van Nuys Homicide Investigation

Van Nuys: On Friday, August 3, 2001, at approximately 9:50 P.M., Van Nuys Patrol Officers responded to a Radio Call of shots fired at the 7400 block of Haskell Avenue. Upon arrival at the location, Officers, found the victim, James Richard, a male Black, 24 years old, resident of the Van Nuys area suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Rescue ambulance #39 responded and transported the victim to Northridge Hospital, where he later died.

The initial investigation revealed that Richard was shot during a verbal argument, which escalated into a physical argument. After the shooting, the suspect fled the area, taking the murder weapon with him. He has not been arrested.
