84-Year-Old Man Killed By a Hit and Run Driver NR17073sr

Van Nuys CA: The Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect involved in a hit and run collision that fatally injured an 84-year old man.

On March 12, 2017, around 9:35 P.M., Valley Traffic Division Officers responded to a radio call of a traffic collision, vehicle- vs- pedestrian at Burbank Blvd and Sylmar Avenue. According to a witness, a light colored newer model Honda Civic four door sedan traveling westbound Burbank Boulevard collided with a male pedestrian who was attempting to cross the roadway outside a crosswalk. The pedestrian sustained blunt force trauma injuries. A witness at scene began CPR until Los Angeles City Fire Department paramedics arrived at scene. The pedestrian was transported to Valley Presbyterian Hospital for life threatening injuries. The 84-year old man was later pronounced dead at Valley Presbyterian Hospital, with several family members and friends at his side.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without identifying themselves and did not render aid to the victim as required by law.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
