Los Angeles: On September 3, 2002, at approximately 3:20 a.m., LAPD officers responded to a shooting investigation radio call at Santa Monica Hospital. While at location, officers interviewed 29 year-old Jalen Rose and a passenger in Rose’s vehicle, who told them that a suspect had attempted to carjack him while he was seated in the vehicle.
According to Roseand the passenger/victim, driven by Rose, were stopped at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Barrington Place, when a vehicle, described as a Cadillac Escalade, containing three male Black suspects, approached from the rear. One suspect exited and approached the passenger side of Rose’s vehicle and threatened Rose and the passenger. Rose, fearing for their safety, accelerated the car as the gunman fired several rounds at them. The 34-year old male passenger, seated in the right front seat, was shot in the facial area by one round. He is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
The gunman was described as a 24-26 year-old male Black with braided hair, brown eyes, 6’6", 160 lbs., wearing a white shirt and black pants.
